Pros

Great pay, great benefits, employee perks discount. There are a lot of very nice very good people.

Cons

There is really no emphasis or importance placed on growth or advancement. At any given time this company of 10,000+ employees has very few job openings (10-20). Everything seems to rely on knowing someone higher up- not your skill or hard work. Most promotions are a surprise and usually have nothing to do with the person's expertise or background. There is a lack of innovation and challenge. This is mostly due to there not being much competition. If you are young or in the early stages of your career this would not be a place for continuous learning/growth. While the rest of the world is advancing in technology and moving towards the future, DTE is still operating with processes from the 80s.

Pros

Good job security (a utility in a regulated environment). Talented, motivated, and helpful co-workers. Great opportunity to learn and develop knowledge and skills about a variety of subjects. Good benefits.

Cons

Bad work-life balance, which leads to a high turnover rate of base level employees. All management has a short life expectancy (2 years max in their position), which means they don't have incentive to help things long term. They push hard for short term wins, which often leads to long term headaches. Prioritization is 100% reactionary, without successful planning to achieve long term goals.

Pros

Continuous Improvements intentions, Cafeteria, pay on time, good community oriented corporate citizen, nice people work at headquarters, customer service focus.

Cons

Old fashioned company, the majority of employees have been there for a long time, so they don't know things can be better (benefit package is mediocre), no discount on their services to employees, different departments don't communicate well with each other, low starting pay, my experience left me feeling the company is more interested in their community image and reputation rather than making employees feel valued. I don't feel safe working there. There are many visitors, construction contractors and contracted employees there all the time. I couldn't look at a person and immediately tell they were an employee. Parking isn't very secure. There is a great security presence once inside, but it seemed like I worked in a public place (equivalent to an airport). Too many different unions usually mean problem with management and employee relations. Computer system (CSB) should be retired now!
