Corrupt Company

Pros

None, besides we were able to work remote.

Cons

Pay is laughable - after 5 years my pay increased by $1 an hour. They claim they pay to meet the cost of living… LOL! I was unable to support myself with this salary… not only is the pay terrible, the management might be worse. They promote the most under qualified people and half the time management doesn’t even do their job/respond to the team members they’re supposed to be managing. Oh, and if you make a mistake? Prepared to be scolded like a child and immediately put on a correction plan. Honestly, working here ruined my mental health. I was treated so poorly along with my other teammates.. they promote themselves as a “village”… but let me tell you, I’d never want to be apart of this village again! There is little to no room to grow in this company, but when they train you they gaslight you into thinking “they hire to retire.” Save your time and don’t apply to this company… they don’t care about their employees at all, overwork and under pay them and essentially brainwash their employees to think they’re with a company that cares… BS!

Pros

*Good people below the Director level *Nice Building and Cafeteria *Good work/life balance for most *Great management and legal team to protect the interests of Stockholders at the expense of Teammates and Patients *Lots of cash to buy back stock to prop up the price in the short run

Cons

*Insular, out of touch, command and control IT Leadership *Infatuated with Vanity Metrics and how great the Village is despite evidence to the contrary *Refuse to let you speak at conferences or otherwise build your professional brand *Only promote people who tow the company line and won't challenge the status quo *Laying off Senior people and replacing them with cheaper, less experienced hires to cut expenses *Poor pay, mediocre benefits * Hit w/ $300-500M settlements routinely the past few years from the Government, Patients and their own Teammates for unethical and illegal practices *Revenue Model is failing (they lose money on 80% of their patients) and American Kidney Fund cash cow to funnel Medicare/caid patients to lucrative private insurance is under attack as a questionable practice.

Good Potential Overall, Bad Personal Experience

Pros

The most significant pro I can think of is the company's emphasis on its "Fun" core value. They really try to emphasize this and I think they do a pretty good job at it. ECO Pass for FT employees. Progressive workplace environment. Nice location downtown near Union Station. The cafeteria on the 14th floor has a pretty spectacular view. You're working for a good cause and that's emphasized.

Cons

No 401k match, misleading PTO (they tie in holidays with your PTO, so beware), confusing department names that make no sense to anyone coming in from the outside (this adds stress and difficulty learning a new role at DaVita). Though I didn't necessarily experience it first hand that often, other employees were continuously complaining about lack of work/life balance. The turnover rate was pretty high in our department (longest tenure was around 8 years; after that 1-3 years). I also felt the onboarding was severely rushed, which left out some important information that I would have liked to know before I accepted the position. That is partially my fault though. I had a bad experience particularly with my manager, and not so much with DaVita as a whole. I liked most aspects of working at DaVita. My manager essentially ruined whatever career path I may have had at DaVita after only 6 months, because I expressed other career interests that I was hoping I could merge with my current role in the future. He did not like this, and, instead of helping me achieve these career goals, chose to systematically destroy my reputation with my team by speaking ill about me to them every chance he got. Ultimately, I got tired of being the black sheep in the group and sought employment elsewhere. I'm not sure how other groups operated (they mostly seemed pretty happy), but ours operated like a frat/sorority house. It was very cliquish and, at times, unprofessional. If you weren't one of the "cool" kids, you were ostracized from the group by being left out of group outings. My manager was one of the most unprofessional individuals I ever worked for. He seemed like a decent enough guy, he just displayed a lot of unprofessional tendencies while I worked for him. DaVita is a place of business, not your own personal social club. Keep it professional!
