Much more than tutoring

Pros

You get your own office space. Smaller department, more focused. Guaranteed max allowed hours for part-time staff 19.5 hours/week. Can participate in interesting trainings on the job to help out the program such as adobe creative software. You get to manage how and when you'd like to see students, such as walk-in or by appointment. You learn how to work in a grant-based program, in case you want to continue working in that type of business. Fine for a part-time job, while you're in school.

Cons

There is A LOT more to it than the description of the job. It is not JUST tutoring a subject. Since, it is a grant-based program, so everything you do each day much be justifiable to their judgment through extensive documentation. Really the job is 90% clerical work 5% program recruitment 5% actual tutoring. Getting students engaged in our services can be a challenge sometimes and we rely on student engagement to justify having a job, so that will always be on your mind versus other campus tutoring facilities that don't rely on grant-aid. Really nowhere to go with it professionally within the program.
