Pros

Everyone is helpful if you seek them out and there is a very positive culture among the dev teams in the office. There are a lot of smart people with smart ideas which is a great environment to learn and grow in. You are left to your own devices with minimal management and rarely have deadlines impressed upon you. This is great for taking control of your own schedule and work on what you want to, when you want to.

Cons

It's a tough company to join if you are junior because you are effectively told to 'get on with it' and figure out what's going on by yourself. This certainly forces you to adapt quickly and it's very much a sink or swim situation. There is an unspoken rule that everyone take responsibility for their own stuff - do not expect a lot of support from senior developers. After surviving the steep learning curve, I can now say I love working at Darktrace and see great progression opportunities. It is, however, not for everyone and requires a great deal of self-assurance in your own abilities.

Pros

- Nice friendly culture where everyone wants to succeed and do their best - Salary was competitive for the area - Engineering managers friendly and not intimidating - Hybrid work is only 2 days per week with option to go full WFH after working there a while - Weekly/monthly developer talks to broaden your knowledge - Weekly ("20%") research days to help maintain knowledge and stay competitive in tech industry - Cybersecurity is a good sector to be in, both now and in the longterm - Game nights if you're into that kind of stuff

Cons

- Feels like the media likes to portray their product in a negative light - No official personal workspace in office (hot-desking), office is open-plan, and there are no real quiet places in the office to work in - Pensions are the legal minimum
