Truth is in the Middle

Pros

Not all 5 star reviews are a lie or fake. I can personally attest that there have been many times where I have felt absolutely obsessed with this company and would have rated it 5 stars. There are incredibly smart and talented people who work here. The product is pretty fantastic. Depending on your team, the opportunities are endless and you will be rewarded for working hard. Most people truly want the best for you and want to help you succeed.

Cons

This is a polarizing company for a reason. If you want a healthy work-life balance and want guaranteed structure without things changing constantly, then this is likely not the place for you. Furthermore, while all 5 star reviews are not fake, there are also definitely 1 star reviews that are calling out true issues with the company. However, I personally feel the truth is in the middle and that your satisfaction with the company can completely depend on your team. Some teams have fantastic leadership and will go to the ends of the earth for you, while other teams do have the reputation of working you to death and then leaving you out to dry. Overall though, I believe if you aren't looking for an easy 9-to-5 job and don't mind throwing yourself into your work, this is not the worst place to work and you can definitely learn and grow an insane amount.

High Potential Company

Pros

The company has such a high growth potential. The product is amazing and there is only one way to go.. up! There are so many insanely smart people doing very creative things. The CEO and leadership truly care about their employees and practice the art of over-communicating. There are weekly meetings to keep employees in the know and there are also weekly office hours that give employees the opportunity to ask the CEO and President any questions they may have. The company is also moving towards a more data driven approach to their sales team and has brought in top of the line GTM leaders that have proven to be successful.

Cons

The company has grown so fast that there are some growing pains which are normal to any start-up. Systems don't talk to each other as much as they should and a lot of employees are wearing multiple hats that they may not necessarily be qualified for. As the company grows a lot of this will fix itself. There are also some legacy ideas that the company has outgrown and need be changed as the company continues to evolve.

Amazing place to be a Data Scientist

Pros

- Amazing colleagues in the technical and non-technical roles. Have encountered very few people who I wouldn't gladly work with. - Technology is truly substantially better and more advanced than competitors. As a data scientist using the software to solve real problems, it is exponentially better and faster than doing it using manual methods. - Company has the opportunity to be an iconic name and make a big impact in the world. I think the leadership has good goals and intentions. - Ability to learn from colleagues and grow as a data scientist. Every day our slack channels are full of interesting data science content, tons of data science internal training opportunities for team. Getting to work on a huge variety of use cases and aspects of data science that you otherwise wouldn't get the same amount of exposure to. - Flat hierarchy is nice, people trust you to do what you think is important, very strong 'mentoring' and feedback. Really enjoy my colleagues - Company has made huge investments in employees and outside of pure corporate objectives. Programs like Dream Big are awesome. AI for Good is really inspiring to hear how we can help non-corporate entities. - New leadership team (COO + other new exec leadership) is a big improvement and professionalization. Other comments about buddies of CEO are a bit exaggerated but not totally untrue. New, more professional leaders coming into the company are helping to correct those problems. - The CEO is a visionary within data science and really motivating. Seems like an interesting guy, and a good force in the company - especially with experience leaders to helps. - Perks are nice (pay, remote work, great tech equipment, vacation, benefits, etc).

Cons

- As others have stated, its a remove company and a startup. I'm not naturally a morning person, but have many days that start at 7am for me to be in a 9am EST meeting. I set limits on my time and don't regularly work nights or weekends (probably average 2-4 hrs/week outside of 7am-5pm working hours... but there are sometimes crunch periods that ask more) - I don't think the CEO's strength is running a 1k person start-up. He's done well, but we needed a true professional to take us to the next step. CEO is a character and somethings says goofy impromptu(weird but not bad) things in company meeting settings. He's not a polished 'business professional' speaker in these internal meetings, so you can get some interesting moments of him going on an odd tangent. - Losing colleagues was really tough and discouraging. COVID is hitting everyone, and company took a proactive step to set us up for success. Unfortunately that means letting people go before things started to get bad... which makes you feel odd as you had valued colleagues let go. - No 401k match is a bummer, but not a big deal. Higher salary than industry makes up for it.
