Pros

The best reason to work here is you can use the time to look for a better job. Additionally, Dataminr provides excellent mental health benefits. This will help cover the therapy costs for treating PTSD you will get from working here. And there is more - You get to express your candid thoughts through “Anonymous” Employee Satisfaction surveys. And don’t worry if you forget to fill yours - your manager will remind and will also provide explicit instructions on the positive responses that need to go in the survey

Cons

Not sure why so many positive reviews are popping up here and so I wanted to use the 2 mins I get to breathe during my workday, to write this unbiased and truthful review. I have been with Dataminr for for over five years now and have seen a gradual decline in the company culture after a narcissistic and delusional ex-consultant was hired in an operations leadership role. They will lure you in with the promise of big bonuses and then at the end of the year your performance will be compared against bot performance. And so, unless you transform yourself into a bot forget about the bonus. The toxic leaders have their heads up their…..they will measure your output every single day in ways that you are not even aware off just to find any reason to give you a negative feedback because that is supposed to motivate you to do better. If working at a sweatshop is a your thing I highly recommend any operations role.

First and foremost –– I’m sorry that this was your experience. At Dataminr, we aim to create a holistically positive employee experience throughout their time with us. We have so many long-term employees here at Dataminr who work with us to ensure that the best parts of our culture aren't lost as we continue to rapidly grow. I wish we could have worked together to address the concerns you’ve shared here. As you mentioned, we do have biannual anonymous surveys. These surveys have informed many of the increased benefits and workplace wellness events that our global team positively rate. Those changes did not come from wholly positive feedback. It came from our employees feeling comfortable enough to think critically about their evolving needs during this uncertain time and trust us with addressing them. We take these engagement surveys seriously because it helps us create a better work environment for our global team. As a result, we have had an upward trajectory of employee engagement scores over the last several years, with 2020 –– an inarguably difficult year –– being one of the highest rated across the board in overall satisfaction. More recently, our October 2021 survey yielded the highest engagement score that we've had as a company to date. This is progress. As for your note on bonuses –– of those eligible for a bonus in 2021, over 99% are set to receive them in March. It’s important to us that our compensation packages are not only reflective of the competitive market, but also of the hard work our teams do to ensure the success of Dataminr. That said, there is always room to grow, and this is something that our leadership is dedicated to on an ongoing basis. On that note, please feel free to reach out to me if you would like to discuss your feedback in more detail.

Pros

Decent pay and alright hours depending on what team you’re on. Catered lunch when in the office. The office is also really nice. A lot of the people are great.

Cons

DM has a long way to go in terms of race and gender equity. I’ve dealt with and witnessed friends and colleagues dealing with entitled, arrogant people on various teams against whom no action is taken. If you’re a young person of color I suggest you look elsewhere. The work environment is made out to be super progressive and cutting edge but it’s really not. Add to that the fact that you will feel like a cop when you see some of the clients we worked with… just not great for me personally.

First, let me start by thanking you for your candid and open feedback. Although it’s painful, it’s important for us to know what we are doing well and where we have opportunities for improvement. I will do my best to match your openness in my response. We are not accustomed to receiving two star reviews. Our employees overwhelmingly tell us that they take pride in the mission-driven work that we do (helping the world manage risk) and the integrity of our DEI journey. Fostering an inclusive, respectful environment is at the heart of our culture and it is personally disheartening that your experience working here was neither positive nor rewarding. One of our core values and driving behaviors is to “find a better way,” meaning we work urgently, thoughtfully and are driven to constantly improve. Our DEI strategy reflects that same drive for continuous improvement. DEI is a never-ending journey, rife with complexity, sure mistakes, and hard-earned lessons. I agree with you that there is an abundance of work to be done in achieving race and gender equity in the workplace and in the world. As a leadership team, we hold ourselves accountable for enacting change and increasing representation in the workplace. It is fundamental to our mission. I respect your experience and appreciate your feedback. That said, I cannot agree with your comment, “If you’re a young person of color I suggest you look elsewhere.” Our employees are powerful drivers of progress and transformation. Their voices and ideas are heard, acted on, and truly drive innovation at Dataminr — from informing our DEI initiatives to the inclusive benefits that support employees of all backgrounds. We continue to build more opportunities into every stage of the career journey, with a particular emphasis on strengthening support systems for our colleagues from underrepresented communities. I recognize that has not been your experience and for that I’m very sorry. I welcome and encourage the opportunity to continue this conversation offline if you’d be open to it. Pros

Incredibly diverse set of coworkers, covering their specific interest areas--feels like a grad school environment Free lunch good compensation well-defined day-to-day responsibilities incredible benefits package

Cons

It's unclear whether Dataminr will ever become the AI company that it tells investors, or whether it will remain the human-assisted AI company that it tells its employees it will. Like many tech companies Dataminr knows where it wants to be only until the next funding raise--past that its all dreams. unclear month-to-month responsibilities very limited advancement opportunities highly-siloed organizational structure anti-criticism management culture highly stressful and traumatic moments with very limited emotional management tools ("here's a month's subscription to Calm")
