Pros

Fast-paced work environment similar to a breaking newsroom Team atmosphere within domain experts cultivates strong relationships and friendships outside of work Multiple female managers which is rare for a technology company Opportunities for advancement upwards and to transition to different areas of the company for domain experts who go the extra mile Shift work allows for good work life balance with little work outside of shift hours Ample vacation days (to compensate for possibility of working on holidays) Good office perks including free lunch, snack room, cold brew, la croix Professional development money per year Great healthcare

Cons

Weekend and holiday shifts are required Changes from upper management can come at times without much advanced notice to the DE team C-suite executives do not interact with domain experts

Pros

- good work / life balance.....but only if you yourself insist on it - incredibly kind coworkers (not speaking of management here) - free food

Cons

- management will give you "promotions" but you will NOT get a raise, despite all the extra responsibility; oh and you will have to fight for a title too - incredible amount of impediments and egos at the top , which renders people unable to do their job leaving them with no autonomy - management is not suited to run anything, let alone departments of people - i don't think a single manager has received any kind of training on how to actually manage - pay is incredibly low in comparison to industry standards - the work itself is like a sweatshop where all you practically do is the same repetitive thing all day every day *only take a job here if you are straight out of school and/or career progression is of no interest to you

Pros

-Decent benefits (fully paid healthcare, catered lunches/dinners, compensation if you negotiate) -Some really accomplished co-workers who are fun to be around -If you love Twitter and breaking news, this is the place to be

Cons

-For a start-up, my department is super hierarchical. -There is very little room for growth and advancement. Promotions and raises are not always commensurate with how much each individual contributes to the team. They seem to prioritize cultural fit and who is likely not to leave the company. -Management will often ask team members to do a 180 on work schedules. Scaling as a start-up is hard, but work/life balance is important. -Zero (!) engagement with CEO/CSO Conclusion: My experience has been somewhere in between the five-star reviews and one-star reviews.
