Pros

- There are some legitimately brilliant humans who work here (some might say: unicorns!) and are pushing every day for things to be different at this company. - Their salary bands are insane (or at least were during my time with them)—I have never been paid so much to do so little.

Cons

- Frankly, this is a sinking ship. Budgets are poorly managed which resulted in multiple rounds of layoffs during the short amount of time I was there. If things keep going the way they were, I do not foresee a long future for the company. - Nepotism is rampant. If you are not someone's relative, spouse, or close friend? You will not be able to make any discernable impact here, as leadership lives and dies by the advice of the good ol' boys club. - There is no clear direction for any department, it is all at the whims of the founders whose priorities it seemed changed daily. This resulted in a bunch of extremely competent, hard-working team members left to just twiddle their thumbs or waste their time on projects that would be dropped the following month.

Pros

The non leadership ppl are great the leaders are leaders in name only they all lack the proper training, guidance or motivation to lead

Cons

The leadership does not value ppl that look any diff than they do and if you are valued and look diff you are either related to someone in charge or a used as a token

I still believe in the Defense Unicorns magic, but...

Pros

- Benefits are out of this world, potentially changing but really good for being such a young company. - People they hire are top class, best of breed, highest performing professionals anywhere on the planet. They are aligned on doing incredible work and will support anyone and everyone. - The asynchronous ways of working are top-notch. Slack is a constant stream of chatter and feedback/dialog, so much so you would think you are in the same virtual room at any given moment. Internal orgs that support the engineers and people doing the work are always available to answer questions extremely quick.

Cons

- The company is young and still going through many growing pains, of which recent layoffs are potential and highly likely (2-3 recent rounds from late 2024 to early 2025) - The senior leadership are aligned to investors and not necessarily to what the original ethos of the company was, to make software better for the department of defense. The misalignment and constant change to strategy is par for the course if you are considering working here. - High expectations that is driving a culture of no room for failure. Be prepared to have a performance improvement plan given to you if and when you fail on a mission or task.
