Not a good place for engineers

Bonus structure is generous (or at least used to be 2009 and previous) Other employees are usually friendly Nice campus/amenities - fitness center, etc

Cons

No innovation - products are developed overseas for the most part. Although they profess to want to be innovative, they are adverse to the costs of actual R&D. Very much on rails - they want to produce the same products year over year for less cost. They want engineers, but don't seem to know what to do with them. Most of the engineers I know who work there are either in danger of losing their jobs or doing non-engineering tasks (ie, project management, marketing, etc)

Life/Work Balance: You usually don't see people working after 6 pm Salary: It's reasonably OK considering the expense in Texas

Cons

Growth room: For software developers, Dell is just providing service for it's online selling business. There is no cutting-edge techniques involved. It's generally web developiong and database processing. No such things as "platform developing" as in Google/Facebook/Twitter/Microsoft/etc. Software is NOT the product and there is no formalized code review or check in policy...For business guys, it might be good. Benefits: No such things like free drink or other offers like in the bay area. Again, it's not like the software companies in silicon valley.
