      Lack of Innovation and too much micro-management

      Pros

      Dell is segmented into many different departments, and sometimes you get stuck with a great team and manager, and sometimes you don't. I was fortunate to have been in a good sales department when I started off, and the people around me were very supportive.

      Cons

      Dell is profit-driven and only cares about hitting their quarterly numbers. For such a relatively young tech company, this place is run by a bunch of middle-aged men in suits who act like their job is more important than yours. Excessively high quotas in the sales departments with few benefits or perks (no free coffee, and the cafeterias are expensive, for example).

      Pros

      I have complete work life flexibility. I am able to work from home as need and for the most part given the freedom that I want or need as long as I get my work done.

      Cons

      Constant change can be a drag. Right when you get everything figured out, it changes again. So a lot of time seems to be spent in flux and trying to figure out who is who and what is what.

      New equipment to work with Intelligent people Team atmosphere

      Cons

      Perot Systems before the purchase by Dell was a substantially better company. The team atmosphere hasn’t changed although I am afraid that it will before much longer. I really respect and enjoy the people that I work with and it really does feel like a second family. We are treated with respect and given room to be adults (not micromanaged and generally treated like children). However, it appears as though Dell doesn’t share that philosophy and they are currently changing the culture.
