Pros

if you are looking for an easy part time job- dietary is the place to be. it works well for highschoolers since the hours are 4-8 pm . otherwise the place is AWFUL.

Cons

Where can I start with Delmar Gardens? There are so many things wrong. 1. First of all the place is filthy. I have seen way too many roaches there to ever eat there. 2.The staff is rude. They treat new comers awful. There is such a high turnover rate because the place is understaffed and not enough training. The older staff is mean to the newcomers and do not train them properly. The place is like high school its infested with drama. 3. Everyday EVERYTHING goes wrong. The place is so hectic and I can not give you a day that things went smoothly in the years I worked here. 4. The pay is not nearly enough to put up with everything. 5. Administration is delusional and will write you up for the littlest thing., Maybe I would do my job "perfectly" if I had the time to. !!! If you want a job you pretty much have to know someone who works there. The nepotism is strong here. Overall it's an awful place to work at. Personally I don't even think it's the job duties- it's the childish, rude staff and the crazy management that makes it so hard to work at. It's the worst job I've ever had. State has been to Delmar so many times I dont know how its not shut down

Pros

You have a lot of the perks of being a charge nurse but with none of the responsibility. Unless you take up those responsibilities under your own initiative. Pay for most is around 12 to 16 dollars a hour bi weekly pay periods Health dental and eye insurance I'm not sure if this is still a thing but they had a deal with golds gym for a 10 dollar a pay period membership. They also used to have staff meals twice a week. In house training tuition reimbursement unlimited hours. They'll let you work until the state intervenes. Then pay you under the table.

Cons

By the time your a CMT you should have experienced all the downsides of nursing already. Delmar isn't any different than other homes. Its just bigger and cleaner. The facility isn't necessarily the issue its the system as a whole and the people you care for. If your looking for a experience to crush the fundamental sense of joy you get form caring for people start here. - Health dental and eye insurance. Health insurance is very expensive compared to what it offers 350 dollars for a ER visit plus whatever the insurance company can weasel its way out of paying for. Dental and eye is ok and pretty cheap. -I'm not sure if this is still a thing but they had a deal with golds gym for a 10 dollar a pay period membership. Golds closes after evening shift gets out so its a bad option for anyone who works evenings. -They also used to have staff meals twice a week. When I left they weren't very good any more. -Tuition reimbursement. After you do this they own you for 2 years and they treat you as such. -Unlimited hours. They'll let you work until the state intervenes. Then pay you under the table. Keep in mind that is done because of continuous staffing issues. Every position works short . But is expected to have assistance with most tasks. Your so short it almost never happens though so you have to hide what your doing from admin. Admin is well aware of this and only really enforces it when it needs to make a show of strength, to appease a angry family or state.
