Pros

Salaries are good, and you won't have to be bothered by things like human relationships, romance, or family, because you will have no opportunity whatever to pursue any of those old-fashioned things. You may as well tell your family right now that you won't be home for the holidays. Or weekends. Or very likely retirement, because you're not going to live that long.

Cons

As a transfer pricing senior manager in the Tysons, VA offices of Deloitte, I found myself immersed in a toxic culture of aloofness, narcissism, paranoia, and despair. The partners generally appear to hate one another, and treat each other as rivals. One in particular suffers obvious symptoms of mental disturbance, most likely narcissistic personality disorder. (Example: Her standard engagement letter actually includes braggadocio about her years as a Ph.D. student and her professional awards. What striking insecurity!) More generally, there is an endless rhetorical barrage about the importance of expressing honest disagreement and respect for diversity of opinion. That is nothing but institutional gaslighting. They are trying to get you to deny the reality that the only way to succeed is to agree with management, no matter how unethical, disrespectful, or ignorant their decisions might be.

Pros

Great co-workers; Very nice building; The salary was good but I didn't know I was going to get paid less than a traditional consultant doing the same job.

Cons

They are not the "real" Deloitte. You will not get the same pay, same benefits or work life balance. They will grade your performance based on a Utilization score that is set for each level but you cannot get on projects without going through leadership which is a direct contraction to what they tell you when you are hired. You are assigned a resource manager whose job is to match you to projects but that person now has to go through senior management to get approval for you to work on the project. If senior management does not agree, you will be placed on the bench which affects your utilization score. There is no training for new staff. They are currently hiring a lot of unskilled people which is a problem because it causes experienced workers to do two jobs because timelines must be met. They tell you your annual performance is based upon your project scores but that is not true, If a person on the team talks bad about you, you will get a bad score which can affect your staying at the company. Work from home on occasion was a part of the initial sell for the position. This week they decided people can't do that any more. They need to come into the office everyday. No flexible schedules unless the client has a meeting that is late. They have made life so miserable in my department that no matter how much they are paying. I don't want to stay. I am not sure this is the norm at Deloitte but I know it is at the USDC.

Pros

Training, help attaining certifications, compensation, medical benefits, smart employees, global project opportunities, profitable company

Cons

Utilization metrics reign supreme here. Even though you get "vacation" time, you pretty much have to make up most time off in order to hit required utilization targets. If you do not hit them, you do not get promoted, bonuses, pay raises, etc. In fact, you will be put on a Performance Improvement Plan even though your actual job performance may have been excellent. Also, you must do a lot of extra internal Deloitte work in addition to your project work. Just keep in mind you will average about 50-60 hours per week when negotiating your salary.
