Pros

Great people and great environment. Vendors are generally pleasant to work with (though they're salesmen so expected).

Cons

Basically no real training. You don't get put on a project for like 1-2 months when you first start, and the only "training" you get is learn as you go and ask questions, yet I was told I asked too many questions. Packaging department for Carlsbad is very small and immediate supervisor is in Salt Lake City, so very minimal interaction. He came to our office I think twice in a full year. Insane amounts of downtime. Expectations for you to be on-site anywhere in the USA with very little notice, for several weeks at a time (5 weeks is considered a "short" trip). Expectations to be able to be a construction manager with no training outside of OSHA safety training. Expectations to work 10-12 hours a day on-site, potentially including weekends (not communicated in interviews). Sometimes your job is putting in new automated manufacturing equipment which causes a large number of people to lose their jobs, which doesn't feel good at all.

Pros

SOME of the people are great. Really world class types of people. The typical engineer gets assigned great amounts of work and responsibility mostly because there are so few of us left.

Cons

Blatant lack of leadership at all levels from engineering discipline, office leadership, all the way up to national leadership. Everyjob is a fire drill and everyone is in reaction mode vs planning the jobs. No visibility to how the bonus system works, cloak and dagger key employee system that isn't talked about but is known about for the special few Personal vacations aren't protected, multiple employees have had to cancel their vacations due to the need for urgent onsite support.

Pros

Centrally located in Salt Lake, nice staff.

Cons

Benefits are not great. 401K takes 3 months to kick in and health insurance is costly. I don't know why they have cameras inside the office above the cubicles, the team I worked with was not great at all, manager was nice but had no clue how to manage the employees. There's this "impress the boss" attitude. If you want a bonus at the end of the year, you have to constantly impress the boss. Oversight is almost non-existent. The rest of the reviews I read here are very accurate. Overall, It does not even compare to big engineering firms. I don't recommend it but do your research and make your decision.
