Pros

There was no feeling of that toxic competition that can be a big problem in academia. Just a lot of smart, driven people.

Cons

No great public transportation options to/from UNR and downtown. Pay is average.

Pros

The soft funded nature of faculty positions at DRI is both a pro and a con. When available grants and contracts are inline with your research focus, the job is engaging, enjoyable, and amazing.

Cons

The soft funded nature of faculty positions at DRI adds a level of stress that can be difficult to deal with. Additionally, you're a post-doc dependent on the funding of a PI, you can feel trapped to the graces of your manager, with little recourse.

Thank you for sharing your review. We understand a soft money structure can be positive, yet still be challenging. We are always working to find new ways to support our early career faculty.
