Pros
I worked at Digi for 15 years, nearly at every level of the organization. Digi is an organization that genuinely cares for its employees. There is excellent mentorship, work/life balance, and excellent global opportunities for those who want to seek them. Digi has made a series of conservative choices which have allowed it to enjoy relative stability in the turbulent high tech firm. It is a very self reliant organization. Digi is a highly international company – if you want to spend time abroad and work in a medium sized company, this is the firm for you!
Cons
Digi suffers from a number of cultural and strategic challenges. First and foremost is a lack of strategic clarity and communication of this strategy beyond a small group of executives. All the important decision making happens in 10 hours of continuous meetings between the same small group of individuals. The strategy must be shared internally (to create momentum) and externally (to create market interest). Digi is a firm that does not know how to communicate. If you want to make a difference, crack into the executive group and bust it open. Second, Digi sees itself as hamstrung to its shareholders. In order to grow and thrive (vs. merely survive) it should consider growing a ventures arm or spin-out some of its lower margin businesses in order to allow them to find Digi's next innovative set of products and customers.
