Great Culture, Bad Innovation

Pros

- People are generally warm and welcoming. Communication skills are consistently strong. - Plenty of work without feeling too overburdened. - Great facilities and amenities. - Flexible hybrid work arrangement.

Cons

- Lack of innovation, especially in IT, makes many Discover departments vulnerable to downsizing by Capital One, the new owner. - Leadership isn't willing to take risks with new initiatives, leading to great inefficiencies in workflows. - Projects are critical for operations, but don't lead to much career development. - Leadership has no leverage in downsizing or restructuring initiatives by Capital One.

Loved Discover, but Discover is no more

Pros

There is a lot of change

Cons

The merger has completely ruined the workplace. The charm and community of Discover has been lost, it is no longer the people first family environment of the past. There is a blanket of fear and uncertainty, the communication regarding the changes has been tragic.

Just avoid Discover

Pros

A job and work from home

Cons

Everything currently. Post merger things have gotten messy quickly. The communication has been horrible (and was prior to the merger for years) and no one knows what’s going on. Home loans was just informed of some big news out of the blue, can’t discuss that publicly because it isn’t public yet but nobody has any idea what’s happening. Wages have always been very low compared to the work you do here. Most leadership just go for the role to be off the phones, they could care less outside of that and it’s obvious for a lot of them. Just avoid jobs at Discover. Apply directly to capital one if you want to have a little more security.
