Run far, far, away (especially from Digital Media)…

Pros

Discovery has a great mission as a purpose-driven company and one that on the surface is great for diversity, families, the environment, and society at large. The reach of the brand is second to none as they are truly an International Company and their benefits are incredible and top-notch. There is a general sense of pride you can have working there and the corporate offices in Silver Spring, LA, and New York are beautiful.

Cons

On the flip-side, the reality of working there is very, very different than what they advertise publicly. The organization is highly political where there are competing fiefdoms and where nepotism and favoritism run rampant. There is a culture of fear that unfortunately starts at the top. It’s not about what you actually deliver, but how willing you are to “kiss the ring” of people who are only in positions of power based on whom they are friends with and by how much they can sap the lifeblood out of the others whom actually do the work. It’s quite astonishing. Diversity is something that is lauded, but not respected in practice above the Director level.

A great place turned into an incredibly hostile environment

Pros

Discovery used to be a great company to work for but that has changed dramatically in the last decade. I can say they still have great benefits and they try to support a good work/life balance, but that really depends what department you work in. The people who work at DCTC are, for the most part, pretty wonderful and competent.

Cons

Terrible upper management and overall work environment. The culture at the headquarters (ODP) is atrocious. If your job isn't management you might as well not exist. Hard work is not valued or rewarded. People spend most of their time in aimless meetings, the direction of the company is laughable, and even HR doesn't seem to care. I would never recommend anyone to work there.
