Pros

There’s nothing nice I have to say about this establishment.

Cons

There is no room for advancement You’d probably have to be here for longer than a year to even be considered and this job is not worth it. No a/c which is fine during the winter but not during the scorching Texas summers. They also play favoritism, which is a weird place to do so but if it’s all you’ve got have at it. I’m sure one of my bosses were on drugs and did some less than reputable things to the store after hours. If for whatever reason you need to call out or reschedule (yes even for emergency) they will initially say yes but end up giving your shift to somebody else on the rescheduled date. They always tried to schedule me to close even though it was out of my availability and I always communicated so. There’s way more but I don’t have it to get into it, And they only pay 7.25. Don’t apply for this job unless you absolutely need it, they will most likely hire you.

Pros

My people, my team, that worked through Covid and the lack of leadership during the Pandemic. Getting abused so much that a job handling dynamite with no hands would make me happy! Getting to understand why child labor laws, slavery laws, and human trafficking laws exist.

Cons

Movie quotes will make this understandable…. “Please sir can I have another” “All whom enter here, lose faith” “ IF you are crazy then you don’t want to go home and get killed here…a catch 22” “I won’t ever let you go Jack” “Big head, little arms” But seriously when you hire the past CEO of Dollar General that pushed that company to a 6 day work week and crashed the stocks when everyone quit, what do you expect?

Pros

If store is fully staffed and you have a good store manager can be a good job for part time cashiers and stockers to make some extra cash.

Cons

Raised prices, did NOT raise salaries and took away bonuses for assistant managers. Abusive upper management blatantly displayed in group emails and no consequences! Group emails also sent out with bonus incentives to store manager and district managers (read by assistant store managers) Low pay, understaffed! Don’t hire persons under 18??? Corporate doesn’t care about their employees. They care about making money. Expect 1 person to unload a truck if that’s all that is available. Stock room is overcrowded, unsafe. No staff to get merchandise out on the floor. Poor employee recruitment on part of DM/RM. Expected to work alone just to keep store open to make money (good luck going to the bathroom) Forced to work long shifts and overtime if no coverage. No consistency in store policies, especially regarding returns, which causes conflict with customers. Also very minimal advertising of benefits that employees are entitled to. If you don’t actually research and ask no one will tell you, just another way to keep cost down and make money for corporate bigwigs!
