Pros

Good starting job to gain experience in retail. Customers are great. You look forward to seeing familiar faces and directing them to new items. We have a lot of retirees in our area and I can relate with their needs. I also work with hard working and "honest" co-workers.

Cons

It's the only place I have worked, that if you work hard and get your assignments done, you get sent home to save payroll hrs. Payroll is so closely tied to sales, that manager has no room to wiggle. If sales are low there are no payroll hrs.to stock shelves. If there is no stock on the shelves, then there are no sales. Manager seems to have little control over the stock that comes into the store. We constantly have to tell customers we are out of popular items and don't know when they will be available. We have had to ask customers to carry items they have bought out of the store in their hands or in trash bags because corporate does't send us bags. The company wants the employees to invest their time and efforts into making DT successful, but they only want to invest minimun wages and mimimize support. They have killed the incentive to do "better". In this economy labor is cheap and DT is taking advantage of it.

Pros

They can usually work well with your schedule if your working part time. Easy to learn job tasks.

Cons

Constant shortage of employees to finish daily tasks. Employees often receive more tasks during their shift then can be completed (especially part time employees and cashiers). Employees working freight are asked to do the tedious task of cutting UPC labels off of every box they stock to validate their case counts for the day. Minimum case counts are required. If you fail to meet the required number (which is very high considering the minimum wage) you get written up. If you have to rearrange sections of the store, condense multiple shelves of products or do other tasks that management has asked you to do during your shift, they usually won't take that into consideration when you show your UPC label count at the end of your shift. Far too much effort expected from each employee for the pay rate. Unprofessional management. Most managers and assistant managers are very young and inexperienced.

Pros

Some good fellow employees ( only the ones with longevity-These are the people who know what its like to work for this company. The new ones don't know and their much younger too! Wonderful customers ( only the ones who have been shopping on a consistent basis)

Cons

No substantial high raises for associates, especially cashiers especially when you wait on 600-800 or more customers each week. District Managers not following through on employee complaints especially if more than three (consistent) made by the customer, Not enough) backup cashiers to support the peak times. Management leaving cashiers in the stores by themselves to go to the bank (for deposits, change etc.) Not enough security at night especially in shopping plaza that have lost other business. Need to hire more male employees to take the slack of females doing all the stocking. and unloading the truck. Cashiers having to run back and forth from the registers to stock. When cashiers are audited and are short financially--Management do not go above and beyond to eliminate the reason why(cannot disclose others ways management correct financial loss, but I do know them) No confidentiality when a employee is reprimanded Yearly reviews given late and when retro pay is entitled that takes even longer.
