Pros

Pay is decent compared to other discount retailers, and there is room for personal development if you take the initiative. Hours are fairly consistent each week and there is always attainable bonuses each month based on store performance.

Cons

The routine can be monotonous at times. Also there is not much individuality amongst the stores as most stores are required to merchandise the store all the same, thereby dis enabling managers to show creativity by merchandising away from the required planners. Finally, many of the initiatives created by upper management only work on paper and not in actual application.

Pros

Dollar Tree really does provide a value in certain departments to lower income shoppers. The first of the month is treated like a holiday because everybody gets thier food stamps and is able to buy what they need to feed thier families. The opportunity for advancement is there, provided you show exceptional leadership qualities, and must be a good stocker. The bonus program offered to management teams is quite a bit more than any other competitors.

Cons

Too many cooks in the kitchen. As store management, I recieve different direction from as many as 3 different supervisors higher than myself as well as company wide direction from the home office. The store manager is ultimatley responsible for everything and is expected to run this business with only one other employee in the building most of the time. The store manager regularly works on his day off, as well as starting all scheduled shifts early and stays late. Average work week is 75-80 hours for the store manager.

Pros

- Awesome Managers and Co-workers. - People seem to complaint about customers not being nice.... however, i found that customers were very nice. - Very flexible with working hours (great if you are still in school or if you have many commitments). - The job is extremely easy to grasp.

Cons

- An assistant manager is simply a stocking employee who gets to lead a crew of employees who get paid a little less. - The pay is not what you would expect from a management title. Nonetheless, the pay seems to represent the level of responsibility (which is not much).
