Pros

It's a typical manager job, you do everything in the store, especially when you don't have a store manager for 5 months.

Cons

The corporate doesn't seem to care about the store level at all. Even if we were making sales they were cutting hours. I remember about three years into work after cutting hours to barebone staff for weeks they announced that the vice president had been awarded a 2 million dollar bonus for cutting hours, while were barely staffed and having customers complain when we do not have enough people to service immediate help needed in multiple areas.

Inconsistent Goals, Not competitive pay

Pros

It is a reliable market, so you know that your job will be there the next day. If you work in the right area, store teams can be very strong.

Cons

The company wastes a lot of money on silly things, and is EXTREMELY profitable; yet they really do not offer competitive wages for any in-store positions. The common goals of the company are great, however the upper management do not work by these goals, making for very inconsistent planning and execution. The communication between corporate, all off-site management, distribution centers, etc... is terrible. This often leads to confusion about directives. The best way around it is to have a very strong store team who can follow company guidelines as best as possible, yet willing to take a few minor risks.

A cog in the machine

Pros

-Flexible work hours -They'll hire anybody

Cons

I started at $7.25/ hour, 4 years later, quit and was only making $7.82/ hour. One of my assistant managers only made a $0.02 raise one year. Yeah. Literally 2 cents. Company doles out a pathetic number of hours per week, expects too much in return. Unloading freight trucks in an un-airconditioned stock room for 3 hours during a Florida summer was torture. Holidays and graveyard shifts you get $1+ dollar per hour, NOT TIME AND A HALF. I wish this company took part in Undercover Boss.
