Pros

Working M-F, no weekends, great location. I enjoy my co-workers, the environment is great

Cons

I worked in 1 department and applied for a few positions internally and some wanted me to accept the promotion without a pay increase since I made more than what they were willing to pay. Internal candidates for positions are sometimes based on who you know or if your manager knows the person doing the hiring. Maximum pay increase is 3%, some may try to get you more then the normal 3% but takes a minute and almost like you have to write what the employee did above and beyond. 3% is nothing to a person making 24,000 a year. The medical and dental benefits...payroll deductions are expensive.

Pros

Even though they are a large company, it's broken up into divisions that are very self sufficient and good at reporting up and/or working together when necessary. Many of these divisions often share technical and physical resources when permitted and it makes it a very comfortable place to work knowing you do not always have to re-create the wheel if another division is already accomplished a similar goal.

Cons

Based in Norfolk, the pay scale is low compared to similar businesses in other areas of the country. This is due mainly to the large military population of Norfolk, whom, quite frankly (as in other parts of the country) often settle for less while their significant others are in active duty. I've worked in other states where this was the case as well, and is a common theme for businesses across the country, but from a business standpoint, it keeps costs down and all the other benifits seem to outway the low pay, but that's just me.

Pros

Family oriented and supportive of the employees. The open door policy allows employees to reach any level of management and most senior management is involved in the ground level operations of the company.

Cons

Short term planning without much patience for long term plans. Everything changes continually in the pursuit of growth. Growth is important but there is also a need for long term stability and planning. Strategies for the future should have thorough unbiased research and senior management must be patient with the changes that are occurring. Change in organizations never comes easy and mistakes are made when they rush.
