Pros

First level managers are usually great. They seem to care about your goals. There is a lot of interesting work if you can network yourself within the company.

Cons

Draper has fully embraced the self-assessment. You have to make your own goals and assess yourself. You have to make your own case for being promoted - literally a powerpoint that gets sent to upper management where it will get ignored. Draper proudly pays consistently less than commercial competition (FAANG or anything one tier below). Engineers have been using Draper as a stepping stone to FAANG companies, resulting in a consistent drain of talent.

Pros

Matrixed organization that allows for quick flexibility moves to new teams in the company. If you find yourself on a team you don’t like management works to find you new work within a reasonable timeframe. Weeks to a month. Not years.

Cons

IT department is underfunded and overwhelmed making the lives of engineers hell, because they cannot support the very different needs of each team. Some times you have to fill out several stages of forms
