      Pros

      Priority access to leading specialists, multidisciplinary care teams, institutional resources, population health management, pharmacy, medical education etc. I’m amazed what I can accomplish for my patients within this infrastructure. Competitive pay with numerous opportunities for bonuses and advancement tracks. Hefty non-salaried benefits and child’s tuition benefit is unparalleled.

      Cons

      Tough, beaucratic, middle-management heavy environment. A Duke product is mandated by patients and management alike. Regular operational growth poses difficulties.

      Pros

      Duke is a teaching facility, therefore there are always new learning opportunities available. Duke also encourages all nurses to climb the clinical ladder and provides assistance in doing so. Pay is good. Nurse to patient ratio is good compared to other hospitals I’ve worked at. I would definitely recommend working here.

      Cons

      •You have to pay for parking as an employee •Insurance: The majority of in-network providers are limited to Duke facilities. If you desire care outside of the Duke system you will likely have to pay out of pocket.
