If you want a challenging career and be a viable part of this exciting endeavor, current employees need to increase their skill set in these areas or risk falling behind and becoming irrelevant. This is difficult because it is change. Management has to contend with those few getting in the way of change including a visible few of the tired management that have been in place forever. It continues change for the better.
