Pros

Great people to work with, lots of learning opportunities

Cons

Trying to advocate for staff needs is like pulling teeth. Your manager has to run it by their manager who has to take it up several more rungs on the ladder to someone who can make a decision but has no clue what it’s actually like to work as staff and thus more than often they’ll decide it’s not worth the money (even if it’s nominal and Duke definitely has the funds).

Pros

Lots of support from adjacent departments. Feel secure in my position.

Cons

No benefit for remaining loyal to the company. No merit based pay increases.
