Pros

great resume builder, great way to make connections, develop comfort and knowledge of basic perioperative care in numerous subspecialties, small amount of surgical first assist experience

Cons

minimal first assist experience, severely high hours of work per week (80-100), sometimes no days off for 2 weeks, too busy to learn or ask questions, minimal/no orientation at each rotation, minimal/no understanding by physicians of your purpose for doing this residency

Pros

I like working at Duke because there is a lot of research going on as it is the research university. Lots of medication and treatment trials.

Cons

The drawback is it is university pay and not private practice pay. Durham is a great place to live but the cost-of-living has significantly increased. Nurse practitioner and PA salaries are not keeping up with the cost of living.
