      Duolingo is headed in the same direction as many other FAANG companies, but not in the positive aspects. Duolingo has the most pretentious and clicky work force I have ever been apart of. Not only that, but the obsession to monetize and grow our consumer base shows that the companies "values" are disguised to trick you into believing that this company actually cares about people. At the end of the day, we are just trying to squeeze people out of their money as much as we possibly can. I will probably be leaving the tech industry because I feel that we are violating so many issues on an ethical basis. This company has left a bad taste in my mouth.

      Pros

      As long as you agree with everything they say and do, you'll be fine. I thought it was a wonderful company until they fired me by just locking me out of the systems and never telling me by email, Slack, or any other way that I was being fired.

      Cons

      They don't have the courtesy to even fire you to your face. They just lock out out of the systems and don't tell you why they fired you or even that they did fire you. They ignore emails and don't respect their employees enough to even talk about the situation. They favor certain employees and treat others differently. They will put some employees on an improvement plan and fire others without so much as a word.

      - Brilliant coworkers - Fast-paced work - Fun office environment - Generous perks - Mission-driven - Transparent company culture

      Cons

      - Cliquey - Company culture rewards those who put work above all else (i.e. lack of work-life balance) - Expectations vary wildly between teams - High burnout rate - Insufficient leadership resources (i.e. if you can't deduce what senior management is really looking for, you'll flounder) - Lack of action on known systemic issues - Most of the awesome folks left years ago - Poor communication between teams and management
