Pros

-Great colleagues/teammates -Opportunity to run at projects that interest you -For entry-level employees, there is a lot of opportunity to grow and explore different roles and gain experience quickly -Generous PTO policy -Lots of work life balance and flexibility around work hours -10 hours of volunteer and healthy life hours per month

Cons

-Limited growth opportunities for non-entry level employees -Poor pay (nearly 50-60% less than other companies in the DMV area). This has been noted for years in internal employee survey results but never addressed other than "research". Benefit package is no longer unique or strong enough to make up for this. 401K match is low. -Senior leadership is very cliquey, resistant to new ways of thinking, and many have never worked anywhere else but EAB. Outside hires often leave very quickly as a result. -During COVID-19, it felt very much like an unspoken expectation that non-parenting employees are expected to take on additional workload for teams as goals/timelines were not adjusted to account for worldwide pandemic. -Senior leadership makes strategic decisions based on whims. Not data, established industry best practices, or big picture thinking. This results in a lot of wasted time and energy and frustration. -Promotion criteria is arbitrary/and mostly qualitative, varies widely depending on your manager, and not based on quantitative performance against goals. Despite a career committee structure, ultimately the most senior leader in your department makes the call on who gets promoted each cycle. If you haven't done a project working directly with them recently it can be hard to advance.

Pros

-Very smart, inspiring colleagues. Most people genuinely care about EAB's mission and our clients in higher ed -Good benefits, many PTO days and healthylife

Cons

-Terrible, terrible middle management. While I don't doubt that there are hard-working members in the C-Suite, that doesn't help when your immediate manager is incompetent. Who is keeping them accountable? Many director/senior director level staff are unqualified for their positions, and it seems many have gotten there due to favoritism. I had several different managers- across the board I felt like they were pretty useless, and I was confident they could not do my job -Does not feel merit-based or expertise is valued. Analyst-level staff get little reward for their work, often leading to burnout and staff turnover. Some of the brightest minds leave EAB, and their managers often don't seem to care -Still feels like a firm who can do presentations and meetings well, struggling to transition into technology and solutions consulting phase -Gender and racial diversity is lacking and apparent

Pros

Strong mission and some great employees at the 'worker' level. Have grown very quickly and are continually looking for new ways to grow. Everyone wants to help and, especially as you're getting started at the company, there's a good support and encouragement - a lot of training provided early on in the commercial org, that is very structured. It's a great place to start your career to learn some good skills. It can be travel heavy, but if you don't mind that, it's a great way to learn presentation skills and time management, and line level managers are overall pretty strong.

Cons

There are some serious issues at the CXO level of management. There is very little transparency into promotion criteria - even in the commercial organization where it's supposed to be driven on clear numbers or performance. Some senior managers get promoted after 2 years, even with performance issues, while others have to wait a lot longer for no obvious reasons. It's clear that the CXO's pick their 'favorites' and if you aren't one, you are put on the back burner. From the sidelines, there is also a major problem with diversity. It seems as though if you are a person of color, you are put into smaller roles with less visibility and it takes you longer to rise in the ranks. As the firm split from the Advisory Board, there was a lot of initial discussion about how they can build their own culture, but it seems like the leadership hasn't really taken a new direction. The same issues are there - CXO's not letting different people grow, and allowing the same people (or the people they have personal relationships with or 'like') to have the biggest opportunities. It doesn't seem to be a good place to grow in leadership; which is a shame as they have such a strong mission.
