OK Company Dynamics and Poor Products

Pros

Benefits are OK. HR staff is friendly and quick to respond. Compensation is OK. Great place to get experience if you are a non-radio person in a non-radio job (marketing, software, logistics & delivery, HR, etc.) Long term outlook is OK because EFJ has the backing of a large parent company.

Cons

Poor internal dynamics with poor communications and animosity between several groups. Infrastructure: As of 2018, EFJ's Phase 1 systems are riddled with issues and a stable Phase II product is non-existent. Several major projects were lost; LMR is a small industry and word gets out. Weekly company-wide status reports show that half of EFJ's major customers are unhappy. Several projects are several years behind. Technical support seems to be the same handful of people. System sales is hit or miss when rolling out proposals, and they seem to be "desk engineers" with no real world experience. Subscribers: At least half the marketing team does not know what they are even selling and there is no training in place. Training consists of the same PPT slide set that is shown year after year. Sales process at times is too complex. A majority of the company (sales, marketing, software, operations, logistics) has little to no public-safety radio understanding. Poor time demands for proposal team. Little opportunity for career advancement.

Pros

I started right out of college and worked at the Lincoln office. It's a great environment to learn in, and the team is very smart/fun to work with. They do lots of little events that help break up the routine. Overall, I would say that I enjoyed most of the work.

Cons

I came to management multiple times with issues through out my time working there (non-technical issues mainly, e.g. felt underpaid, interest in a specific project) and it felt like my requests most of the time fell on deaf ears. Additionally, the company struggles to compete in the market, and for me there was always a thought of "how long can they sustain this?" The pay seems to lag behind what I would consider to be the market average for an engineer.
