Flexible work with good hours available. Weekly pay.

Pros

The pros for being a sub are flexible hours, variety, gaining more experience if you're heading towards being a teacher, and helping the community

Cons

ESS doesn't pay you for training, and schedules an all day mandatory training/orientation session during school hours, which goes against Utah state and National Labor Laws. By law you should be paid if you're receiving training during work hours, it's mandatory, and it's for the job you will be doing. There are other methods for training delivery, but they choose the most inconvenient way possible. If you work for another district, that is a full day of not being able to take an assignment elsewhere, which wouldn't be an issue if they paid you. They don't recognize previous substitute experience, work experience, sub certification, or associates degrees. Even if you've recently worked for them or a partnering school district, you are still required to attend an all day training session regardless of your knowledge of how things work or capability of doing the job.

Thank you for your feedback. We're glad you’ve found value in the flexibility and experience that substitute teaching provides. Regarding your concerns about training, ESS follows all applicable federal and state labor laws, including those related to onboarding and compensation. Our training is designed to ensure that all team members, regardless of prior experience, are prepared and aligned with school district expectations. We understand that some experienced substitutes may feel the training is redundant, and we’re continually reviewing our processes to make them as efficient and respectful of your time as possible. We appreciate your input.
