Pros

There is a good level of autonomy. If you're single and have very few responsibilities and can take the risk, you might consider this job because you can learn interesting things. Coworkers were nice enough. If they keep you and make you permanent, I imagine you can be there for a long time. Many of the permanent employees have been there many years.

Cons

I was told that everyone is hired on as a temp. (with very few exceptions) When I interviewed, I was told that this was just policy to make things easier. I expressed concern about stability because I was going to be leaving a stable job in order to join them, and I wanted to be sure that if there were any problems with my performance that I would get a lot of feedback so I'd have an opportunity to fix whatever it was. I said that I didn't need the job, but I was only attracted to it because I wanted to try Product Development. Again, I already had a stable job. The interviewer assured me that I wouldn't have to worry about that. If there were challenges, they'd be communicated to me and we'd work through them. I would not be caught unaware. That didn't happen. After I started I found out the position has been a revolving door. Several people were brought on, and each of them let go without warning. The overall climate in several departments was cold. A lot of people walk on eggshells. You overhear about people being let go regularly. The long term employees spoke freely and the temp employees very quiet. In that sense, it could seem a little unsettling. A week before a preapproved vacation I get a call from the temp agency that I will not be returning. I had no warning at all. This is different than what they told me in my interview. The manager had just talked to me about how he would be training in me on new things in the upcoming weeks just a day or two prior. I saw bad reviews and should have heeded them. That's not to say that this can't work for you. It might. Just be aware of the risks associated with it before you drop anything else you may already have going.

A Step Up From Hourly Retail/ Service Jobs

Pros

- Fun extras include catered lunches once a month during summer, employee of the month incentives, snacks/drinks provided in some departments, and a ritzy holiday party once a year. - Regular schedule that doesn't change from day to day (but may include lots of overtime depending on department)

Cons

- Poor communication between management, supervisors and general employees (especially for new hires). - As this is a growing company, things are constantly changing - including processes and roles. If you aren't prepared to frequently grow & change with the company, be prepared to leave. - Lots of overtime, extremely high expectations, and most feedback only occurring when performance is less than satisfactory (meaning, don't expect praise). If you have a hard time keeping a pleasant attitude in the face of constant criticism, this is NOT the workplace for you.

Pros

No overtime unless you are Mexican. Pay raises are okay. The owner is involved in every aspect of the company.

Cons

This company revolves around taking advantage of everyone. I worked there for over two years and when I took 1 week of paternity for my newborn they found a reason to fire me. They are currently contesting my unemployment benefits and I never had a bad review or write up at all. Communication is a joke. The CEO walks around yelling and screaming while everyone wishes he would shut up behind his back. If you catch him on a bad day you could be fired on the spot. Oh but not by him, he has a small group of sycophants to do the firing. If you are unlucky enough to get brought on through a temp agency, they will do everything they can to keep you as temp for as long as possible. I’ve seen them keep people in temp status for over a year. Then set unrealistic expectations with this intent to set them up to let go. Do yourself a favor and wait for the next job opportunity. Anyone with self respect will avoid this place like the plague.
