Pros

Most people are nice and down to earth but you have to look for them and stay away from the snobby ones. If you find a good manager, stick with them as they usually teach you all you need to know. This will be key to moving up or for future job opportunities.

Cons

They have a "DSG" program that other firms stopped using years ago. Most firms give you a load of work or clients to work on automatically. As a Staff/Senior, you have to find your own projects and take charge of your schedule from Day 1 in San Jose, ca. Your career will pay for it if you don't start asking for work right away. Stay away from the larger engagements as you won't learn as much like you do on the small ones since you often get stuck doing one or two main schedules and that's it. Make sure you network or else you don't look like a team player. Everything is about perception there so be careful about image and reputation.

Overworked and underpaid

Pros

Flexibility at work and good reimbursements for traveling.

Cons

Work is so regulated by EY and the government there is absolutely no freedom when performing work. Management doesn't care if you have a life outside of work they expect you to work endless hours. Based on the hours we work compared to what we get paid, we are way underpaid.

Pros

It's a global company and with a good brand name. Depending on the group you are working with you might get opportunity to work on good projects. You will find it amazingly easy to get recruited by EY even if you have less than average qualifications

Cons

In quest for growth EY has started hiring anybody and everybody in the industry and trying to do every piece of work that comes their way. A quick glance at the employee qualifications and background will give you an idea where they are headed, so if you are looking for bright people to work with, EY is the wrong place. If you are from Deloitte, PwC and not able to get promoted then surely EY is the place to be, you will get an automatic jump in your level. However do not expect much salary jump. You will get to meet very few partners who will earn your respect and most of them will leave you wondering - how on earth they have become partners
