Pros

I'll preface my review with this: I've waited more than a year to write this, to be in a clearer headspace and effort objectivity in my observations of the work environment. This place pushed me to the precipice of a mental breakdown, and in the wake of my departure I've required months of therapy to be back to my former self. So, pros you ask? NONE.

Cons

What I have to say very much mirrors what others have posted: Mercurial and feckless leadership, rudderless "vision," acerbic and toxic work environment, just to name a few. Favoritism and nepotism run amok and destroy any illusion of a professional environment. Leadership is notorious for caustic "reply all" emails, blaming subordinates for their own failures, and usurping your accomplishments for their own. It's very Machiavellian at Earth Day. If you will want to work at a mission-driven organization that does good for the world (especially around environmental and climate issues), this is not the place for you. Please don't read these reviews and think your experience will be any different. It won't. Also...just a side note, most of the five star reviews are from interns, read into that what you will.

Pros

Earth Day has a young, driven staff who do a lot with a little. I made great friends there and I'm so, so glad that most of them have left. I also learned how to work in a hostile environment - managing up, staying out of view, and other office politics skills are handy, though I wish they weren't necessary.

Cons

Leadership invents a fresh way to sabotage their organization every week. It's impressive, but not at all fun. Whether it's calling at 2 a.m. with an "urgent" and terrible idea, disassembling staff achievements because they didn't think of it, hiring unqualified friends & family, or some other amazing failure, the leadership of Earth Day gives a master's course in awful management. Take the job if you're desperate, but start applying as soon as you join — everyone else is.

Pros

If you are a passionate environmentalist, someone who wants to work with cool young people (for the most part) and someone who does not take verbal abuse personally, or mind dysfunctional management, you will have a lot of opportunities to take on interesting projects, and a lot of autonomy within them (but only if you take it for yourself). The company itself does good things... when it does them.

Cons

Sr Management ranges from incompetent to mean. It is a very hostile, anxious environment. It is very disorganized. There are no clearly defined goals -- let alone guidance toward achieving those goals. Credit is not given where it is due. Also, they will work you like a dog and barely thank you.
