EBR Needs Teachers, But They Don't Act Like They Do!
Pros
Since EBR has a serious shortage of teachers, there's job security there. It can also be rewarding to help students to learn and grow. Some students/parents really appreciate what you do, and teacher appreciation perks are nice. Also, you get a lot of time off for holidays and over the summer, and the other teachers at my school were typically very supportive and positive.
Cons
EBR has a culture of teacher blaming and shaming. If the students don't perform as expected, then its your fault and no one else's (which isn't really fair, especially for a new teacher). Administration (at least at the school where I taught) was also not helpful at all. They seemed to only want to do the bare minimum required when it came to helping their teachers, supporting them, and giving them advice on how to grow and improve. When a principal is coming in to observe your class on the very last week of school - that's not helping anyone but them. You need time to receive feedback and implement it in the classroom, and my feedback was not received at a time where it could be any help to me or my students. Also, you often are given no time for breaks, whether to eat lunch or even go to the bathroom. I felt like a second-class citizen.
