Management off the rails

Pros

Pay arrives on time. The heat and air conditioning typically works on campus.

Cons

The President recently chased an employee out of a campus wide meeting and yelled at the employee in both English and Spanish. The Provost had an affair with someone in his office and gave her a secret raise. The President started investigating employees when they talked about this. The President and Provost are abject liars and can not be trusted. It is time to clear out these irresponsible, incompetent morally bankrupt frauds and bring in new leaders who have ethics and know what they are doing. Until that happens, stay away.

Pros

Nice facilities for art and music.

Cons

Current administration engaged in exploitative practices of faculty, changing policies without warning two days before the semester start to cancel small classes, then proposing pro-rated contracts which were not even tendered until end of second week of classes. Failure in basic business ethics. No response given for grievance by management.

Declining Enrollments and Toxic Work Environment

Pros

University offers good funding for junior faculty for conference travel and innovative projects. Students are enthusiastic and respectful to the instructors. Staff has tremendous support from the Union. The university president and provost are wonderful people and passionately try to encourage pedagogical innovation.

Cons

The university is witnessing a sharp decline in the enrollments. Student body has reduced from 5500 in 2017 to about 3000 in 2022. It puts tremendous pressure on faculty members. Classes are cancelled due to low enrollment. Job safety and security are at stake. Also, some departments have toxic work environment forcing talented faculty to quit/leave their jobs.
