Pros

The company has a vision as well as diversification into many end markets. It is still a larger chemical/materials company unique for not being headquartered in, say, Houston. Longer-tenured employees consistently care, know a lot, and share knowledge. Jobs typically offer a lot of responsibility and opportunity for making an impact. The region is pretty.

Cons

Not much growth or innovation (apart from methanolysis perhaps) in the last decade. Hiring leaders from outside has diluted the identity and winning culture. Very short-term focused. Frequent staffing cuts and stingy reinvestment in operations . Teams do not have the budgets or resources to achieve at the highest level.

Pros

80+% of people you work with will be really smart and trying to solve the same problem. It's a great environment to learn a lot, and there is always another opportunity to do something interesting.

Cons

Byzantine and anachronistic processes that are (in contradiction) constantly changing. It often does not occur to contributors to own the business impact of their decisions and recommendations. HR policies drive negative behaviors and incentivize talent to leave across all levels of the company.

Pros

100 year old company with a diverse portfolio and exciting circularity platform Compensation and total rewards are above industry average People at Eastman are close knit

Cons

While in the past there were many upsides of being employed at Eastman , now is not the time to join . The culture and working environment has become toxic. I am concerned about the capability of the leadership team in driving our innovation platforms and the overall health of the organization . After the RIF in February people are dual and triple hatted and drowning in work. And the attitude of Eastman is “ be lucky you have a job” We promote people based off favoritism and not on capability . It’s an environment that thrives on building consensus with homogenous thinkers everywhere you look. Times at Eastman are scary right now . It’s like being in the jungle and everyone is in self preservation mode which drives behaviors that have greatly impaired the psychological safety and well being of the employees . Unless you sit in Kingsport Tennessee with the rest of us we are not inclusive of you . You will have to scratch and claw just to get into the meetings that are essential to your job . It feels like no one is aligned and everyone is working against each-other and it will eventually be the end of Eastman. My advice to anyone reading this is to wait to see if they can turn it around . We have a lot to learn as an employer .
