Pros

You have the ability to work by yourself without much contact/interference from supervisory management - until you get behind and then you feel like a target is on your back. You get to learn and perform a ton of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, materials management, chemistry work, which is really rewarding if you like that. You get to use a huge range of customer service and communication skills. You literally learn new things almost every day. You're by yourself and if you're a solitary sort of person, that's worth it's weight in gold. The benefits are those of a major world company.

Cons

if you like to work independently and actually CAN manage/schedule yourself, priorities, time management, etc. -- you should be okay. If you CAN NOT work independently and manage a route of 70-100 locations, you will be DROWNING in misery in a NY minute. You do EVERYTHING, from installing machines/equipment, to fixing them 24/7, to having selling quotas for products, to dealing with trying to collect from many deadbeats, to being given unrealistic sales quotas (meaning you will almost NEVER make more than mid-to-upper $30K range - for a CONSTANT on-call experience which leaves you miserable even when you're "off duty" (which you never are.)

Pros

- Decent hourly pay ($22/hour starting + overtime pay) - No micromanaging, work is done based on your own skills and motivation - Good benefits for healthcare, 401k, company car + gas card. - Good "teamwork" environment. Despite being alone most days, I always had good support and help from teammates and supervisor.

Cons

- HORRIBLE workload for the high amount of accounts you manage. Stressed 100% of the time and always feeling "rushed" and "behind". - Ecolab products seem like they are designed to break/not function properly. This makes servicing customers a nightmare each and every day. - Poor commission/bonus structure. Does not motivate us to sell more. Its something like "achieve 300% of monthly budget and you'll get an extra $500!". If I achieve 300% budget I would expect like a $10,000 bonus, but they stop at $500 pathetic. - Bad training in my opinion, sets you up for failure. - You work at least 1 weekend a month, and are "on-call" every night. For this job, "on-call" means you will most likely be called in to service an account 2-3 nights per week. - No room for career advancement. I had incredible co-workers and teammates who have been there for 20+ years. They are well-liked and very knowledgeable & efficient in their work. They STILL have not gotten promoted to a higher level role of any sort. I had the same job titles as them and I felt guilty in a way.

Changing the CIO was much needed

Pros

It was a good company to work for, especially in IT while CIO prior to the last was in office. The exiting CIO was so arrogant he could not see any bad in him. How arrogant can a person be? On top of this, he had 0 IT background.

Cons

Not sure what the pros are nowadays at Ecolab but I can say that while the old CIO was in place, there was so much arrogance that he could not see beyond his ego. Also, changing the CFO was much needed. He was a blocker to IT
