Pros

As the world's largest PR firm, Edelman is a good name to have on your CV if you're building a career in PR. In its core competence of traditional PR, Edelman is still better than all its rivals. It's one of the few agencies that has an Annual Wage Supplement and is regular with promotions and raises.

Cons

Edelman has become a dumping ground for people who failed in other agencies and just need to prolong their careers for a few years. In the name of being nurturing, Edelman has extremely high tolerance for mediocrity and underperformance. Unless you're actually good at your job. That's the one thing they can't tolerate. If you try to be progressive and passionate at Edelman, there'll be a lot of people who feel threatened by you and start finding fault with you for everything. Before long, it will become a witch hunt and you'll feel like leaving. So many of Edelman's best employees have left to join more progressive agencies and clients. The management's efforts to elevate Edelman's creative capabilities have failed so far, because they've brought in old-school advertising creatives who ideate as if it's 2005. The planners come up with "insights" that are not very insightful at all. In short, Edelman is failing at every department other than traditional PR.

Edelman Response

While I sincerely thank you for your review and honest feedback, I'm obviously concerned to read your comments about the ways we manage our talent. While we must continuously improve, we've publicly taken bold steps to ensure our talent is continuously developed and widely recognized for achieving the very best results for our clients. And, although we won't get it right all the time, I take offense to your characterization of the hires we've made and the talent we retain and grow at Edelman. We embrace the passion, skill and curiousity of our people and I'm sorry you feel you didn't experience this during your time at Edelman. I would be very keen to talk further about this and if you were open to this, please feel free to reach me on Nigel.Miller@edelman.com. Thank you. Nigel Miller, Chief HR Officer
