Good training ground for junior and mid level

Pros

Young professionals get exposure to PR at top notch client companies, along with many lesser known companies. Opportunities exist to work o a wide variety of client types and industries. Benefits and compensation are good to very good, opportunity for travel and there's even global "work abroad for a year" program.

Cons

Easy to get siloed in a group or on a large account, but Edelman has improved opportunities for employees to transfer teams and onto new accounts over the last few years. Lots of egos and internal competition among offies, practice areas and individuals. Squeaky wheels tend to get a lot of grease, deserved or not. Lots of big egos. Still a pink collar ghetto, with the vast majority of upper management jobs held by men, though arguably slowly improving in this area. Expectation that you are "always on, always connected" can be burnout. Definitely not a 9-5 place.

The Honeymoon is over and I ran out of Koolaid.

Pros

Global and diverse client base, fast pace, fair pay scale. Global offices may open up opportunities to work abroad. Some really great co-workers and ideals. Regardless of your length of stay, the experience you gain will benefit you in the long run.

Cons

The Canadian offices are going through some growing pains. I found staffing to be heavy on the Senior level and sparse where the actual detailed work needs to be accomplished. This equates to many consecutive long hours with no compensation. You may find yourself pigeon holed very quickly and looking elsewhere.

Pros

Independence, guided by our own interests and client interests; good pay and benefits; the fact that the Edelman family is deeply involved with and committed to our business makes all the difference; this is a place where you can chart your own destiny and try new things

Cons

Bad behavior at senior levels tolerated too often and too long, although efforts have been taken to address this in the past few years; base pay is typically fair at senior levels although bonus potential is relatively low (and target payouts just decreased by 1 percent in FY13, although stretch potential increased accordingly)
