Pros

Of course Edelman looks great on your resume, it's the largest PR firm in the world. The opportunity seems endless for most.

Cons

Minorities, especially those of African decent, do not advance at an equal pace as others. It may take two years to get promoted from a AAE to AE or AE to SAE. Minority interns rarely get hired, extended or even considered. It was also discouraging to see the majority of AA employees working in mail room. This is not an isolated situation, it happens in offices around the country.

Pros

Edelman's extensive client list provides employees with the opportunity to work with some of the biggest brands in digital/consumer/health/travel.

Cons

Edelman is by far the worst corporate culture I have ever experienced in my 10+ years on the job market. Account teams are ridiculously unorganized and upper management is populated with opportunistic and disingenuous individuals that play favorites and are all too eager to throw junior staff under the bus at a moment's notice. Rude emails, name calling, unjustified accusations of inefficiency, screaming obscenities on company conference calls: all part of the day-to-day life at Edelman. And if you think the Human Resources department will be there to help you when you inevitably bear the brunt of this abuse, think again! Edelman's HR department is by far the worst I have ever encountered. There are plenty of PR companies out there. Learn from my mistake and think twice before signing on the dotted line with these folks.

Local management revolving door

Pros

Great clients (for now) and a lot of talented people at the staff level.

Cons

Great clients and great staff are overshadowed by a revolving door of incompetent local management. Just when you think the standards have hit bottom, a new low is reached. This is as of August, 2012. Maybe things will get better?
