Edmentum markets tutoring and instructional sessions to school districts across the United States with the assurance that students will be taught by certified teachers. However, teachers are being required to instruct sessions outside of their credentialed subject areas and licensed grade-level authorizations. This information is not being disclosed to the school districts purchasing these services. High School English teachers are being forced by Edmentum to teach 2nd grade Math, or being told they will lose their jobs. This is extremely unfair to school districts and students.
Edmentum requires full-time teachers to oversee student caseloads of 350 or more while simultaneously compelling them to facilitate live instructional sessions for up to six hours per day. This workload places significant strain on teachers and may impact both educator well-being and student support.
This situation has created a challenging and discouraging work environment for teachers, who feel they are not able to properly support students when assigned to teach outside their areas of certification.
This practice is highly deceptive to school districts, which are misled into believing that sessions are led by qualified, credentialed teachers when they are not, raising serious concerns about transparency and ethical standards.
Despite offering accrued PTO, Edmentum policies prohibit teachers from taking more than two consecutive days off and impose numerous blackout periods during which leave cannot be used. These restrictions significantly limit employees’ ability to utilize earned time off and prevent teachers from taking extended vacations, even when they have multiple weeks of PTO available.
There are no advancement opportunities at this time. The courses are outdated, and there is no currently Curriculm to update or edit online courses.
