Pros

This is one of the best places in higher ed to work because it's small but influential. Every person who works at EDUCAUSE can and does make a difference. They welcome telecommuting staff, so anyone in the US can work at EDUCAUSE. The people are smart and nice, the work is rewarding.

Cons

It's a pressure cooker environment because so much is happening. The IT environment is surprisingly lame for an IT-focused organization.

Pros

The people! Our members are the best and our co-workers are fun, motivated, intelligent, and committed to serving our members. Every person I work with is engaged and excited about our work. Our culture fully supports our distributed workforce. Retirement and vacation benefits are fantastic. Our events are always in interesting cities with interesting people.

Cons

Communication can be a challenge in our fast-paced, distributed environment, but everyone is committed to assuming positive intent and moving forward in a positive way. We've been using Slack to keep us connected in a professional and social way. Even when we're far, we feel close now.

Pros

EDUCAUSE serves higher education IT leaders and professionals while also engaging a wide range of stakeholders dedicated to advancing higher education through technology. This provides EDUCAUSE staff with the opportunity to work with innovative, mission-oriented members and fosters an organizational culture that is similarly focused on innovation in support of higher education's mission. Association employees enjoy positive working relationships that emphasize cooperation and collaboration, and association leaders strive to foster a working environment that incorporates staff input and respects work-life balance.

Cons

Associations are constantly challenged in terms of balancing member needs with available resources, especially as those needs evolve. EDUCAUSE works hard as an organization to keep its events, research, and programs aligned with current and emerging member needs, but timing the end of legacy activities with the launch of new innovations is not always a smooth process. As a result, staff are challenged at times to manage the maintenance or wind-down of legacy efforts while getting new projects off the launch pad.
