Pros

Awesome sales training....I will take these skills into the next area of my life. Average starting off salary after graduating with a degree in financial planning (~$34,000). They have a good support network of advisors & mentors who aim to keep you on the right track with your sales goals. In general, a very positive work environment but the nature of the business is that they are not "team-oriented"...because there is no team. Only you as the salesman.

Cons

Only cares about asset gather & they do not practice "true" financial planning. Massive conflicts of interest, the end goal is to gather their assets. The software Jones uses is dated and frustrating. There is no match on a 401(k) but health benefits are alright. Working for Jones over several years felt more stressful because you had to drink the "kool-aid". High sales quota & if you did not produce you would be let go. Door knocking in 2017 does not work like it did back in the day.

Pros

If you have prior experience in sales within another field, then you may enjoy working at Edward Jones. The Financial Advisor Role is a sales position. You get to meet interesting people and the people who work for the firm are generally nice.

Cons

The primary cons to working at Edward Jones is that you aren't expected to really know or understanding anything about the how the markets really work. There's no metric that evaluates you based on how well you structured a client's portfolio. In fact, most financial advisors are only concerned with opening accounts(i.e. what you get paid to do) and simply place clients funds either in some mutual fund(i.e. managed by someone else) or only recommend stocks that are on the firm's recommended buy list. If you're really passionate about the markets, trading, portfolio management, etc. this is not the place to work. I personally experienced advisors who had been with the firm a decade not knowing how to value a company, attributing the stock being too expensive due to the price of the stock being above $100.

Pros

-Company cares about your growth and offers many ways to develop yourself -Limited Partnership only offered to employees -Friendly and welcoming culture. -'We are all in this together' mentality. I never have issues getting help from other teams/divisions -Work Life Balance

Cons

-Financial Industry can be a bit behind on Tech -Dress is business professional (Suit and Tie). -Approval and Change process can be rigorous and slow due to handling of sensitive information -Some teams have a lot of 'tribal' information (Information that isn't well documented and is just passed down by word of mouth)
