Pros

They will train you and get you licensed. They will put you in a Branch and get you a BOA (Admin). They will put you on a performance chart that just goes up for five an a half years.

Cons

They will expect you to make your numbers or they will let you go. They will pay you much less on your gross (40%) than anyone else and then expect you to pay for all your marketing. You will also pay for ALL your expenses through your P&L from day one including all your buildout expenses. For the first three years you will have to SELL, SELL, SELL for you will not be able to do any fee base business. You will try and do what is best for your customer but when push come to shove (pay your bills or stay hired) you will look at finding trades. Over 30% of the FA have been with the firm less than three years so ruenover id hugh.

Pros

Edward Jones is a good place to gain experience. Their training is excellent and the support from home office is great. The biggest downside is that it's often who you know that makes difference. This is nothing new of course, but it's the difference between loving this job and hating it.

Cons

If you don't like who you work with, this can be an unpleasant job. Each branch consists of two employees, so you better get along. Also, suck-ups get favoured sometimes, and usually are the type of person you don't want to work under. Again, nothing new in the world.

Pros

Great training relating to getting all required licensure. If you get an office, overhead is covered along with salary of assistant. The company is ubiquitous (which can also be a downside). You are able to work your own schedule.

Cons

Lower payouts...due to the fact that Edward Jones covers the overhead of your branch office. Very high attrition. Imposing contract for people new to the industry. The way you're trained to gain clients is by knocking on doors. With the individual office, company seems fractured. Home office does its best to work in this system, but it's difficult for the new advisor in his or her own office to really get business going...unless he or she is fortunate enough to take over a book.
