Pros

You get the opportunity to work with the most dedicated, customer service-oriented people I have ever known. Real team environment on most levels. Growing corporation with lots of opportunities for the right individuals.

Cons

Real talent is not always recognized. HR method of applicant screening is terrible. Applications are screened by a computer system that if certain "buzz" words are not found in the resume or application, it eliminates them as not qualified. Huge corporation that is very poor in anticipating or planning for staffing needs or some needs of its members. They will hire hundreds of new associates and train them to meet a current urgent need and then months later when the situation settles, they fire them all. They seem to operate on a knee-jerk reaction on a day-to-day basis.

Pros

- High salaries. You will be overpaid. Anthem doesn't seem to care about this. - Company is stable overall - Well rounded benefits, lots of different components to the benefits package - Opportunities for growth / relatively easy to move around company - Health insurance is cheap if you qualify for all the "healthy choice" credits - Flexible work options depending on team/manager

Cons

- Overpaid salaries make it difficult to walk away if you want to. You will likely have to take a pay cut. - Your experience will vary widely depending on the team you are assigned to. A team using all legacy waterfall with SQL/SSIS will be terrible. A progressive team using agile with Java or .NET should be OK. - Ironically, the health insurance benefits are terrible. HMO (select states) or HSA only. No PPO. High deductibles on the moderately priced HSA options. - Lots and lots of changes in IT - IT relies too heavily on (mostly foreign) consultants. The quality of work they produce varies widely
