Pros

There are always plenty open shifts!

Cons

During my employment at this behavioral health facility, I witnessed and reported resident abuse by clinicians to upper management. No corrective action was taken following my report. I also reported sexual misconduct involving my direct supervisor. Despite multiple reports to Human Resources expressing that I felt uncomfortable and requesting separation from this individual, no interim protective measures were implemented. I was not separated from the supervisor, and no suspension or investigation procedures comparable to those used in other cases were initiated. In contrast, when white employees reported allegations of sexual misconduct, multiple Black staff members were suspended pending investigation. In my case, there was no suspension of the supervisor I reported and no separation to ensure my safety. This disparity in response reflects unequal treatment. After reporting both the clinician misconduct and my supervisor’s behavior, I began experiencing ongoing bullying and hostility from the operations manager. It was widely known within the facility that the operations manager and the clinician involved were in a personal relationship. Following my reports, I was subjected to consistent negative treatment that appeared retaliatory in nature. Additionally, I witnessed residents being overlooked for necessary wound care and observed documentation practices that raised serious ethical concerns. Vulnerable individuals deserve attentive, compassionate, and compliant care. Based on what I observed, I could not confidently recommend this facility to families seeking safe treatment for their loved ones. I also witnessed elderly residents subjected to freezing temperatures within the building. On multiple occasions during overnight shifts, elderly residents would stand in front of bathroom hand dryers for extended periods in an attempt to stay warm. This was deeply concerning given their vulnerability. I was recently terminated for allegedly leaving my shift early. However, I left at approximately 3:40 AM during an 11:00 PM–7:00 AM shift due to severe tooth pain that was exacerbated by the freezing temperatures in the building. I sought emergency dental treatment at 8:40 AM that same morning. My termination occurred after I had reported abuse, misconduct, and unsafe conditions. This pattern of inaction, unequal disciplinary treatment, and retaliation created a hostile and unsafe work environment. The attached photographs were taken inside the Natale Building and document the indoor temperature conditions. This building houses 24 residents, and the temperatures shown pose potential health and safety risks. Immediate attention and corrective action are necessary to ensure a safe and habitable environment for all residents.

Pros

Great way to get experience early in your career in a field helping children and families. Lots of earned PTO time.

Cons

No room for advancement unless you're buddy-buddy with the leadership. The pay is not competitive and you never get more than a measly 1-2% COL raise.
