A pretty big letdown

Pros

- Nice location, interesting academic offerings - Generally positive and kind community of students, staff, and faculty - Staff union, though administration is incredibly anti-union and trying to keep other staff from being in it; there is also a faculty union - Overall brand is one of uniqueness and inclusion; whether it is embodied is another story - Good retirement matching from the college

Cons

- Constant turnover, especially at higher levels of exec/management, means instability and uncertainty for all staff below them - No confidence in new "leadership" that has made a series of questionable decisions; staff is ignored and talked-over - Questionable policies have led to a chilling of campus discourse and creativity - Most staff have incredibly low salaries that have not kept up with inflation or market values; only management and executives have salaries commensurate with living in the Boston area; promotion process is incredibly opaque and rare - A tanking brand that seemed more prestigious and appealing a decade+ ago; no real direction forward - General disorganization and understaffing - Sky-high tuition costs that management seems not to understand will impact most students' ability to attend; are there really that many uber-wealthy students that Emerson can attract away from better schools and cities like LA and NYC, or from Europe (where education is free) and Asia? - Emerson seems eager to hire people yet once you're in the door they seem like they couldn't care less about retention, which is baffling, since turnover is costly in so many ways
