Pros

Emory is a place that fosters growth in all senses of the word - they balance work and life together to maximize opportunities to learn. From the colloquial atmosphere to the encouragement to explore and think differently, Emory challenges you to become a better professional. Their approach to problem solving and staying competitive in an increasingly crowded landscape of higher education makes it amazing to "be on the inside" and see the school as a business in addition to a place of study. Coworkers are kind, caring, and as far from cutthroat as possible. Everyone's there to help each other, and everyone wants each other to succeed.

Cons

Like any big business, departments are fairly compartmentalized. There isn't nearly enough communication to truly allow each department to support each other in the way they're envisioned. Management turnover is fairly high, and students are never truly satisfied with the job you do. Long-range planning initiatives are conceptually incredible but often fall short in the execution, leaving staff to pick up the pieces. This often involves angry parents, inconvenienced students, and dissatisfied staff. Traffic in the Clifton Corridor (the Emory Area)is horrendous no matter what time of day, and it sometimes takes an hour to travel one mile from campus at rush hour.

Pros

Pay, proximity for students, flexible hours. I was able to work whenever I wanted during business hours, with or without anyone else present. Responsibility was given to me for finishing my tasks. It was relatively easy encoding work, and I was praised for what I thought was average performance. (Which could be a positive or negative.)

Cons

Repetitive, boring, etc. Not much variety.

Pros

Great benefits. A lot of variety.

Cons

Type A environment. Working 12 hours a day is expected. Long work hours are not rewarded. No merit increases for top performance. First place I've ever worked and not received a raise for outstanding job performance. Management is allowed to bully employees with no ramifications.
