Pros

A lot of opportunities for growth and development Work-life balance Get to work among really talented group of researches

Cons

Compensation specifically salaries, but I guess the other benefits are supposed to make up for that. As much Emory brings in with grants, the employees at Emory should be paid significantly more to compete with other institutions such as Duke.

Challenging place to work

Pros

Good retirement plan; and decent healthcare benefits. Emory could be a great place to work if you get the right boss/the right department. It can also be a terrible place to work... see cons...

Cons

Low pay scale; little to no management training for academic leadership resulting in terrible leaders and managers within many academic departments. No oversight for academic leaders and managers compounding the problem. Do not expect a unified value or priority system across all of Emory University. Emory is very decentralized, so if you get a good boss and her boss is also good, then you could have a great experience. If you get a bad boss and his boss is bad, you could have a terrible experience. It's a crap shoot.
